Allie and Jen: The Family They've Never Stopped Fighting For

In April 2023, Allie and Jen began trying to conceive with the help of a close friend who generously became their sperm donor. Months of at-home inseminations did not work. In 2024, they began IVF. Each cycle brought hope, then waiting, then a phone call. Three transfers, all negative. A second retrieval produced six eggs, three fertilized embryos, and two more transfers that did not take.

"I remember asking my wife, 'What did I do wrong?'" Allie writes. Infertility is no one's fault, and she knows that. She still carried the blame for everything she could not control.

Their third retrieval was their best cycle yet: fifteen eggs retrieved, seven fertilized, five embryos reaching blastocyst. After weeks of injections and medications and a painful transfer, Allie finally saw a positive pregnancy test. For one weekend, she and Jen let themselves picture their future as moms. Then her hCG dropped, and the pregnancy was gone.

Why the Cost Falls So Hard

Family-building through IVF is rarely one decision. It is a series of them, each with its own bill, and the bills keep arriving whether or not the cycle works. Medications, monitoring, retrievals, transfers: none of it comes with a guarantee, and none of it comes cheap.
